Today we talk about the transistor radio and how it freed people to listen wherever they wanted.
Salty Brine was one of my very first heroes. He was bigger than life. Always cheerful. He exposed me to music from Brenda Lee to the Beatles. I enjoyed listening to him every morning. I dedicate this show to him. He appealed to young and old. He was one of the last DJ's to do that as music got more categorized and radio stations decided to play only one tiny slice of the pie. What were some of our earliest musical memories? Do you ever think about that? Well we delve into that very subject this week.
We talk about folk music (Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul and Mary; Bob Dylan and Joan Baez) and have some pleasant diversions. This is the first of a multiple part series.
The Newport Folk Festival nurtured the folk movement in the early 60's.
Roger Miller. Great singer and storyteller. We beg to differ.
Transistor Radios. More to come in the next episode.
The phones were ringing off the hook as we tried to tape this episode. Click Here for the Episode |

We've taken a break for a few months, with vacations and a few illnesses we just haven't had the time to dedicate to it.
We are at 2000 downloads at our one year anniversary. I remember waiting for the 100th download in January. We thank all of our listeners for their support
Moby Grape were a great group coming on the scene in 1967. They were a band's band. Favorites of many artists, but never quite made the big time with their mix of blues and country-ish sound.
The Eagles are back with a big punch. I think the wait of almost 28 years since their last full studio album was well worth it. Their harmonies are tighter than ever. They can still write great hooks. It will be a popular Xmas gift.
